Mr. Trump’s Stupid Excuses on Taxes - The New York Times

Mr. Trump’s Stupid Excuses on Taxes - The New York Times:

From:

"It is odd that Mr. Trump, who demanded proof on paper that President Obama was born in the United States, would expect voters to take on faith his own claims about his commercial successes, his dealings with business partners, what he gives to charity and other financial matters that could conflict with his duties if elected president. His tax returns are the only documents that can conclusively corroborate or disprove his claims and allay concerns about conflicts of interest.

Mr. Trump has offered nothing but fallacious excuses for keeping his returns secret. Initially, he said he would not release returns until the Internal Revenue Service completed an ongoing audit; the agency said there’s no rule stopping disclosure during an audit. Recently, one of his sons said the returns are so long and complex that people would ask too many questions if they were allowed to see them. None of these claims make sense. Here are some plausible explanations for Mr. Trump’s refusal:"

Foreign Wars and Terrorism - The New York Times

Foreign Wars and Terrorism - The New York Times:

"Donald Trump has offered virtually nothing except fearmongering and notions that could make matters worse, including a proposal for “extreme vetting” that could prevent most Muslims from immigrating to America. Apart from its vindictiveness, such an approach can only help the extremists by fueling anti-American sentiment among moderate Muslims everywhere. Meanwhile, Mr. Trump claims he has a plan somewhere in his possession to defeat the extremists but refuses to divulge it, perhaps because he hasn’t the foggiest idea of what to do."

Foreign Wars and Terrorism - The New York Times

Foreign Wars and Terrorism - The New York Times:

"Dealing with extremism abroad and its spillover at home will present an enormously complex challenge for the next president. Over the last five years, conflicts in Syria and Iraq have continued to frustrate the United States diplomatically, sapped military resources and provided a breeding ground for Islamic State radicals, who have spread bloodshed and destruction in the region and the West.

The multidimensional nature of the problem was on full view this week: a cease-fire in the Syrian civil war seemed ready to collapse; American forces prepared to recapture Mosul from the Islamic State; and terrorist attacks occurred in New York, New Jersey and Minnesota. President Obama’s successor will have to confront these threats and understand what connects them."

2016 Election Forecast: Who Will Be President? - The New York Times

2016 Election Forecast: Who Will Be President? - The New York Times:

"The Upshot’s elections model suggests that Hillary Clinton is favored to win the presidency, based on the latest state and national polls. A victory by Mr. Trump remains quite possible: Mrs. Clinton’s chance of losing is about the same as the probability that an N.F.L. kicker misses a 45-yard field goal.

From now until Election Day, we’ll update our estimates with each new poll, as well as collect the ratings of other news organizations. You can chart different paths to victory below. Here’s how our estimates have changed over time:"

Senator Joe Lieberman, the man behind legislation to give President Obama a kill switch for the Internet in the move towards a Chinese-style government controlled world wide web, now has the power to shut down websites with a mere phone call, as was underscored yesterday when Amazon axed Wikileaks from its servers after being pressured to do so by Lieberman’s Senate Homeland Security Committee."

Will Obama Block 9/11 Families' Lawsuits Against Saudi Arabia?

Will Obama Block 9/11 Families' Lawsuits Against Saudi Arabia?:

"President Obama has until Friday September 23 to decide if he will veto a bill which would allow the 9/11 victims’ families to sue Saudi Arabia.

On Friday September 9, the House of Representatives passed a controversial resolution which would allow victims of terrorism and their families to sue nations suspected of financing or otherwise sponsoring terrorism. Currently, this is only legal for countries who are on the U.S. government’s “state sponsors of terror” list, which includes nations like North Korea and Iran. The new change would allow the 9/11 victims’ family members to sue nations like Saudi Arabia.

The Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, or JASTA, unanimously passed the Senate in May after a hard-fought battle by the families of the victims of 9/11. However, President Barack Obama is expected to veto the bill."

9/11 Attacks - Facts & Summary - HISTORY.com

9/11 Attacks - Facts & Summary - HISTORY.com:

"On September 11, 2001, at 8:45 a.m. on a clear Tuesday morning, an American Airlines Boeing 767 loaded with 20,000 gallons of jet fuel crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact left a gaping, burning hole near the 80th floor of the 110-story skyscraper, instantly killing hundreds of people and trapping hundreds more in higher floors. As the evacuation of the tower and its twin got underway, television cameras broadcasted live images of what initially appeared to be a freak accident. Then, 18 minutes after the first plane hit, a second Boeing 767–United Airlines Flight 175–appeared out of the sky, turned sharply toward the World Trade Center and sliced into the south tower near the 60th floor. The collision caused a massive explosion that showered burning debris over surrounding buildings and the streets below. America was under attack.

Did You Know?
September 11, 2001, was the deadliest day in history for New York City firefighters: 343 were killed."
